World Aquatics and the Sony Corporation have announced a four-year partnership under which Sony will support all World Aquatics competitions held through to the end of 2028 as an official partner, starting with this week’s World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in Budapest.
Working alongside World Aquatics, Sony photographers will document marquee World Aquatics events, sharing images with audiences worldwide. A dedicated platform for imagery will debut in December, allowing fans to access event highlights and exclusive medalist photo shoots.
“Working with Sony will bring new opportunities to World Aquatics and our athletes,” World Aquatics President Husain Al-Musallam said. “Sony’s cutting-edge technology and commitment to excellence will elevate the experience of our competitions, capturing the intensity and artistry of aquatic sports in innovative ways that engage and inspire global audiences.”
Sony will contribute to sharing athletes’ achievements as World Aquatics’ official photographers and videographers will use Sony technology, including Alpha mirrorless cameras, interchangeable lenses, Cinema Line cameras and system cameras. In addition, Hawk-Eye Innovations will further contribute to fair competition management through video replay services.
World Aquatics is the international governing body swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming and high diving. Sony will utilize the partner to deliver Kando to people worldwide, a Japanese word that roughly translates to awe and emotion when experiencing beautiful and amazing for the first time.
“We are pleased to become an official partner of World Aquatics, which provides wide-ranging support to aquatics athletes and fans,” said Kimio Maki, president and chief executive officer of the Sony Corporation. “Sony will contribute to the development of aquatic sports by leveraging technology to enhance the Kando created by diverse athletes and creators and deliver it to fans around the world.”
