Visit Monroeville Sports has been formed to advance sports tourism in the Eastern Pennsylvania city, situated in Allegheny County near the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.
Visit Monroeville has been working on sports tourism for years prior to VM Sports’ formation. Visit Monroeville already hosts events such as the Tyrant Wrestling tournament, held annually in November, as well as the Showstoppers Dance Competition at Terrain Race. Visit Monroeville’s sports event partner, Atlantic Coast Sports, annually generates over $1 million in direct spending in Allegheny County hotels.
“When sports events, big or small, come to town, the athletes and their families and supporters bring their wallets,” said Visit Monroeville President and CEO Sean Logan. “They’re looking for quality lodging, excellent food, entertainment and shopping. Monroeville has it all — along with proximity to a major international airport and downtown Pittsburgh.”
Among the sports facilities in Monroeville are the Alpha Ice Rink, Pittsburgh Ice Arena and Center Ice Arena, Gateway High School’s Furrie Sports Complex and Founder’s Field, which is the home of the Pittsburgh Harlequins Rugby Football Club.
“Visit Monroeville is always looking for new ways to bring events into our region,” said Amy Capcara, sales and marketing manager of Visit Monroeville. “The development of VM Sports just formalizes our dedication to tap into this growing market. Sports are part of our area’s legacy, and we couldn’t be more excited about VM Sports.”
