The Utah Sports Commission has launched a year-long celebration as it marks its 25th anniversary with a commemorative logo, throwback video and other content to highlight key moments over the quarter-century.

The Utah Sports Commission has partnered on over 1,100 sports events statewide and is expected to reach an estimated $4 billion in economic impact by mid 2025. Salt Lake City hosted the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and recently won the bid for the 2034 Games.

“Reaching 25 years is an incredible milestone, and we’re thrilled to honor the journey that has made Utah a global hub for sports,” said Jeff Robbins, president and chief executive officer of the Utah Sports Commission. “This is a time to reflect on our past achievements and express gratitude to those who have supported us along the way.”

Utah has hosted several world championship winter competitions including the 2004 Moscow-Utah Youth Games, 2005 FIL World Luge Championships and 2019 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships. This winter it is scheduled to host several bobsled and skeleton events in Park City as well as a FIS World Cup Freestyle Skiing event in early February.

The state also has hosted three Ironman and Ironman 70.3 World Championships, the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend and several large UFC events. The home for five professional sports franchises, the Park City and Salt Lake City area also is home to National Governing Bodies including US Speedskating, USA Climbing, U.S. Biathlon and U.S. Ski & Snowboard.

“Since its inception under Governor Michael Leavitt in 2000, the Utah Sports Commission has provided a guiding light in building sport to become a vital element of our Utah economy and lifestyle,” said Governor Spencer Cox.
