The 2023 USA Gymnastics Men’s and Women’s Development Program National Championships will be held May 9–14, 2023, at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. USA Gymnastics legend Bart Conner made the announcement Tuesday at the annual TEAMS Conference & Expo in Oklahoma City.
The championships draw more than 1,700 athletes annually and serve as the culmination of the competitive season for USA Gymnastics’ Artistic Development Programs. Many of the nation’s top elite gymnasts are alumni of past men’s and women’s championships, which were previously held separately under the moniker Junior Olympic Nationals.
“From elite-track athletes to the next generation of college stars, the annual Development Program National Championships feature some of the best up-and-coming gymnasts in the country,” said Stefanie Korepin, USA Gymnastics chief programs officer. “We look forward to hosting this event in a community with such strong ties to our sport.”
Men’s all-around and apparatus national champions will be determined across Junior National Level 10 and Junior Elite Level 8, 9 and 10 divisions with participating athletes ranging in age from 12-19. On the women’s side, junior and senior Level 10 gymnasts will vie for all-around and individual event titles in 12 age divisions, and the Wildcard competition, which was introduced this year, will return in 2023. Men’s club and region titles and a women’s regional Super Team title will also be up for grabs.
Gymnasts qualify annually to compete at the Development Program National Championships based on their performances at state and regional championships.
“Oklahoma City has a strong legacy within gymnastics at varying levels of the sport and we’re excited to host an event of this caliber,” said Adam Wisniewski, vice president of sports development at Visit OKC. “Beyond the competition, we look forward to attendees experiencing our vibrant districts and attractions during their stay.”
