SportsPittsburgh will again host the Steel City Freeze volleyball tournaments, starting tomorrow and bringing two consecutive weekends of youth competition to the region.
February 1–2 will feature the Steel City Freeze Girls Volleyball Tournament at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, a 10-year staple in the Pittsburgh sports community. The following weekend, February 8–9, the Steel City Freeze Boys Volleyball Tournament will make its return after its inaugural year in 2024. The boys’ tournament has already sold out and is exploring expansion into a three-day tournament in 2026.
“We are excited to once again host the Steel City Freeze tournaments and continue to position Pittsburgh as a premier destination for championship youth sports,” said Jim Britt, vice president of sports events at SportsPittsburgh. “The remarkable growth of the boys’ tournament in just one year is a testament to the strength of our local sports community and our ability to attract and support top-tier youth competitions in the region.”
A total of 784 teams are set to compete across the two weekends. With an estimated 24,000 athletes, coaches and families expected to attend, the events are estimated to generate $8.7 million in direct visitor spending.
“Pittsburgh has been a tremendous host city for our Steel City Freeze tournaments,” said Tim Keating, tournament director and co-owner of GK Sports. “From the incredible venue at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center to the services provided by SportsPittsburgh to support the longevity and growth of our event, we love returning to Pittsburgh year-after-year and providing athletes and their families with a first-class experience.”
