San Juan, Puerto Rico, will be one of the four sites for Olympic Qualifying Tournaments organized by FIBA, the international federation’s executive committee confirmed this week.
The other tournaments will be played from July 2–7, 2024, in the cities of Piraeus, Greece; Riga, Latvia, and Valencia, Spain.
Puerto Rico will host Mexico, Cote D’Ivoire, Lithuania, Italy and Bahrain in San Juan. Greece will host Slovenia, New Zealand, Croatia, Egypt and the Dominican Republic in Piraeus. Latvia is joined by Georgia, Brazil, Cameroon, Montenegro and the Philippines in Riga. Spain’s bracket in Valencia includes Lebanon, Angola, Finland, Poland and the Bahamas.
The draw took place at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball at FIBA headquarters. The winner of each tournament will earn a spot at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, joining seven teams who qualified directly from the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 plus France as the Games’ host country.
