The Sioux City Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau in Iowa has hired tourism industry professional Kristi Franz to serve as its first executive director after a national search for the new role.
Franz will lead the development, implementation and coordination of all tourism related activities to promote increased visitation to the Siouxland area including through sports tournaments; national meetings and conventions; motor coach groups; business and leisure travelers as well as bring focus to Siouxland residents to the events and attractions in the region.
The Sioux City Sports Commission, an arm of the CVB, has helped promote and organize events such as the NAIA volleyball championship and Women’s Division II national championship, Sioux City Relays and Siouxland youth mite hockey tournament.
“The Sioux City Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau is fortunate to have someone of Kristi’s caliber to lead the organization,” said Andrew Nilges, SCRCVB board chair. “After an extensive search process it was clear that Kristi is the right person to lead the CVB into the future. The board is confident that Kristi’s leadership will result in new tourism, events, and economic growth in the Siouxland region.”
Franz has been in the tourism industry since 2012, most recently in Independence, Missouri. Franz was born in Arizona and raised in Sioux City.
“I am looking forward to bringing my experience in the tourism industry to my hometown and to share Siouxland with residents and visitors alike,” Franz said. “This area has grown and changed so much in the time that I have been away. However, the core of what I love about Siouxland is still here and very much a part of this community. I am thrilled to be home.”
