Shreveport to Host Inaugural Caddo Velo Classic

Posted On: February 21, 2019 By : Jennifer Lee

The inaugural Caddo Velo Classic will be staged in Shreveport, Louisiana, March 30–31. The two-day event will see amateur and professional cyclists participating in the criterium races on March 30 and the gran fondo community ride on March 31. Proceeds from the event will support cancer care, education and research at the local Feist-Weiller Cancer Center.

“Due to the rising costs of healthcare and decreases in funding, the Caddo Velo Classic is important to supporting Feist-Weiller Cancer Center,” said Dr. Glenn Mills, director of the center. “It is our mission to fund cancer research, treatment and education, and expand cancer screening and cancer prevention programs in our community. Events like the Caddo Velo Classic help us accomplish these goals.”

During the Caddo Velo Classic Criterium, riders will compete in criterium throughout the day on a 0.72-mile course through downtown Shreveport. Races will begin with the junior category and culminate with the Pro/1/2 men and women races, which includes a $10,000 purse for men and $10,000 for women. There will also be a free ride for children ages 10 and under.

Open to all riders, the Caddo Velo Classic Gran Fondo is a 101-mile scenic ride beginning in downtown Shreveport and covering a winding route north of the city through wooded areas in Louisiana.
