2024 Premier Lacrosse League Championship Game Heads to Philadelphia
Quarterfinals will be in Boston and semifinals in Long Island during postseason
Posted On: March 27, 2024 By :The Premier Lacrosse League’s playoffs this season will be held throughout the East Coast with Boston, Long Island and Philadelphia selected to host the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship rounds.
The quarterfinals will be September 2 at Gillette Stadium in Boston before the September 8 semifinals at Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University in Long Island, New York. The championship will be September 15 at Subaru Park in Philadelphia.
“Our teams’ pursuit of a PLL Championship for their new home cities will run through Boston, Long Island, and Philadelphia – three top-performing markets fit to host our most important games of the season,” said Paul Rabil, co-founder and president of the Premier Lacrosse League. “We’re grateful to Kraft Sports + Entertainment, Hofstra University, the Philadelphia Union and Cash App, and look forward to delivering a world-class experience for the players, and our fans.”
Under the new playoff format, the Eastern and Western Conference winners will receive a first-round bye, with remaining teams to be seeded based on overall record. Eight teams will host ‘homecoming weekends’ and there will be two neutral-site weekends of action for the Premier Lacrosse League 2024 schedule.
The PLL recently assigned its eight teams to home cities as part of the league’s effort to grow the game and build fan affinity in each team’s home location. Its 2024 Champions Series in February was in Springfield, Virginia, returning to The St. James with a tournament that followed the Olympic-style sixes format that will be part of the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles.
Teams which play in their new markets will play doubleheaders that weekend and one team will have a bye week at the same time.
The season starts May 31 in Albany, New York, and Casey Stadium for the New York Atlas weekend before heading to Charlotte from June 7-9 for the Carolina Chaos homecoming at American Legion Memorial Stadium. The next weekend of action will be June 14-16 at Villanova Stadium in Philadelphia for a Waterdogs homecoming, then the league goes to its first neutral site from June 28-30 at TCO Stadium in Minnesota.
The Boston Cannons homecoming will be July 5-7 at Harvard Stadium before the PLL 2024 All-Star Weekend, set to be held July 12-14 will be at Lynn Stadium at the University of Louisville, returning to the site where its All-Star Game was in 2023. All-Stars from New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Maryland will make up the Eastern Conference team and face All-Stars from Utah, Carolina, Denver and California.
“With the overwhelming success of the 2023 PLL All-Star Game, we’re excited to welcome the Premier Lacrosse League back to Louisville in July,” said Greg Fante, president and chief executive officer of the Louisville Sports Commission. “I know how much our regional lacrosse community and other Louisville sports fans appreciate the opportunity to enjoy an exciting weekend of professional lacrosse.”
After the All-Star Game, the PLL heads to a neutral site in Fairfield, Connecticut, and Rafferty Stadium from July 19-21. It then heads across the country to Torero Stadium in San Diego from July 26-28 for California Redwoods homecoming. The final three weekends will be August 2-4 at Homewood Field in Baltimore for a Maryland Whipsnakes homecoming weekend; August 9-11 in Denver’s Peter Barton Stadium for a Denver Outlaw homecoming; and August 16-18 in Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah, for an Archers homecoming weekend.
