University of Oregon Partners With Foodstiks During World Athletics Championships
Company's wood cutlery offers sustainable alternative to plastic
Posted On: July 8, 2022 By :The 2022 World Athletics Championships, which are being held July 15-24 at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, have partnered with Foodstiks to help incorporate more sustainability during the event.
Headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, Foodstiks are compostable wood cutlery, which are 100 percent natural, renewable and compostable and a green alternative to plastic.
Over the course of the 10-day competition, the University of Oregon campus will be transformed into an athlete village for 4,000 competitors from 100 nations.
“This event is typically held in places like Berlin, London, or Singapore, so this is a very big deal for Eugene, Oregon, and the first time this event is being held in the U.S.,” said Thomas Driscoll, associate director of housing, University of Oregon.
Foodstiks are disposable utensils that are made of Birch wood. They, like popsicle sticks or tongue depressors, have natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that eliminate 99 percent of all potential contaminants.
Unlike compostable plastic, which requires commercial composting facilities, their wood cutlery is 100% backyard compostable. Foodstiks are completely natural, with no toxic chemicals added.
