Next Gen ATP Finals Moving to Saudi Arabia Through 2027
King Abdullah Sports City will host the event with record prize money
Posted On: August 24, 2023 By :Saudi Arabia will host the ATP Tour’s Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah through 2027 under an agreement announced Thursday, the first time an official ATP Tour event will be held in Saudi Arabia.
The end-of-season tournament for the ATP’s leading 21-and-under players will be held at the King Abdullah Sports City on an indoor hard court from November 28 to December 2. The event’s prize money will rise to $2 million, a jump of more than 40% from the $1.4 million in 2022, when the last of five editions was held in Milan.
The ATP’s announcement follows a bid process launched in March 2023 that evaluated host cities from multiple regions against criteria including venue, international connectivity and potential to grow professional tennis in a new market.
“The ATP Tour is truly global and exploring new markets is central to growing the game,” said ATP Tour Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi. “Bringing the Next Gen ATP Finals to Jeddah is our chance to inspire new fans, in a region with a vast young population and unite audiences around tennis. Our congratulations go to Jeddah and the Saudi Tennis Federation. We look forward to building on the event’s incredible success together.”
The Next Gen ATP Finals, first launched in 2017, has established itself as showcasing the world’s best 21-and-under players; nine of the current Top 10 players in the ATP world rankings having competed at the event. Past champions include Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The event also serves as a platform to test rule changes, new technologies and innovations in the sport, many of which have gone on to be incorporated on the ATP Tour.
“We are extremely proud that ATP has selected Jeddah to host such an important tennis event,” said Arij Mutabagani, president of the Saudi Tennis Federation. “The Next Gen ATP Finals embodies the philosophy of our Federation, which is to inspire young talent to reach the sport’s highest levels. We’re excited to collaborate to promote the ATP Tour’s most promising rising stars, and showcase new sporting innovations, in our special city of Jeddah.”
