The Los Angeles Marathon will have Turkish Airlines as its official airline sponsor during the 35th annual race on March 8.
It is the second year that the marathon will partner with Turkish Airlines. Eight elite runners from Africa, six from Kenya and two from Ethiopia will be flown in by Turkish Airlines as part of the collaboration. The marathon itself is already sold out for 2020 with spots only available for the LA Big 5K event held on March 7.
“We are thrilled to once again sponsor an event that brings together remarkable athletes from all over the world and we look forward to celebrating each runner that crosses the finish line,” said Ersen Engin, Turkish Airlines’ Los Angeles general manager.
The Los Angeles Marathon has been held since 1986, two years after the marathon that ended the 1984 Olympic Summer Games. There are more than 27,000 runners annually for the race, which starts at Dodger Stadium before ending in Santa Monica.
Turkish Airlines flies non-stop direct from nine American cities — Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Miami, New York, and Washington D.C. — to its new home in Turkey’s Istanbul Airport.
