Jasper County in South Carolina has plans to build the state’s fourth USA BMX sanctioned race track after receiving a $750,000 grant from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism to purchase land for the venue.
While Jasper County has not yet begun its search for suitable land to purchase for the track, county officials intend to start the process in the near future. Track construction typically has a four-year timeline from start to finish.
“We hear all the time from community members wishing for a USA BMX track in their hometown, so we applaud communities that are making that happen,” said Justin Travis, director of business development for USA BMX. “Everyone deserves to not only have the chance to take a spin on a BMX track, but also to feel the strong sense of community USA BMX members have created and grants such as this one make that happen.”
Approval for a track is part of a “Jasper on the Move” initiative that encourages residents to be more active. Jasper County would join Rock Hill, Lexington and Boiling Springs as communities in South Carolina with sanctioned USA BMX tracks ahead of the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles, the first Games organized in the United States since BMX racing’s Olympic debut in 2008.
“I am extremely pleased to have been a part of the process that brings $750,000 in funding to Jasper County in the form of a USA BMX bicycle park that will enhance the lives of our children and residents,” said South Carolina Senator Margie Bright Matthews. “This project will create both economic and recreational boosts to the community bringing travelers from all over the region into our community utilizing local hotels, businesses and restaurants. I look forward to seeing this project completed and our residents and visitors utilizing the park.”
