Ingmar De Vos began his four-year term as president of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations on January 1 after having been elected at the 48th ASOIF General Assembly in April 2024.
De Vos has served as president of the International Equestrian Federation since 2014 and as an ASOIF Council member since 2019. He takes over the position previously held by Francesco Ricci Bitti.
“I am deeply honored to serve in this capacity for the next four years,” he said. “Our International Federations form the bedrock of the Olympic Movement and the International Olympic Committee recognizes our pivotal role. Maintaining and strengthening the open and constructive dialogue that has been cultivated in recent years will remain a key priority.”
An IOC Member since 2017, De Vos is part of the IOC Coordination Commission for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games in Los Angeles, the Legal Affairs Commission and the Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commission. He is a SportAccord Executive Committee member, ASOIF representative on the World Anti-Doping Agency Executive Committee and a member of the board of directors of the Belgium Olympic Committee.
The ASOIF is set to welcome four new associate members in 2025 — the International Cricket Council, the International Federation of American Football, World Lacrosse and World Squash — which join ASOIF for the LA28 Olympic cycle. De Vos will chair the ASOIF Council meeting for the first time on January 22 and the 49th General Assembly.
“During his 12-year presidency, Francesco’s wisdom and leadership have driven significant progress, particularly in governance,” De Vos said. “He has been instrumental in fostering collaboration and cohesion among our member IFs, notably through the establishment and development of ASOIF’s Consultative Groups. His contributions have left a lasting legacy and we are profoundly grateful for his service.”
