City officials in Northport, Alabama, broke ground this week on a youth sports facility called River Run Park.
The $27 million complex will have nine baseball/softball fields with two centerpiece fields that will have concession buildings and grandstands that could host high school and college events. The baseball field will have seating for over 550 people between bleacher and folding seats and the softball field will have 510 seats.
Northport Sports Complex Development, LLC will be the developer of the venue which will be located as part of a Northport Shore development that will also encompass Kentuck Park, Warrior Baseball and Northport’s Levee Trail.
Westfield, Indiana-based EdgeRock Development is the developer along with SNAP Consulting’s Don Staley, the former chief executive officer of Tuscaloosa Tourism & Sports and former University of Alabama women’s soccer coach. The venue’s full plan calls for a 131,000-square-foot indoor recreation facility that will be designed to accommodate basketball, volleyball, cheer and dance.
