Derek Bombeck has been named director of sports for Visit Lincoln, the result of his continued role locally and on the national scale in building Lincoln as a sports destination.
Visit Lincoln is a division of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. With the recent announcement of the Lincoln Youth Complex and other ongoing sports-related developments, Bombeck will play an instrumental role in building the sports strategy and long-term funding model for the community.
“Our community continues to rise as a must-see destination and with the recent investments in sports facilities citywide, now is the perfect time to capitalize on our incredible momentum in the sports tourism market,” said Visit Lincoln Executive Director Jeff Maul. “Our team has excelled on all levels as the lead destination market organization for Lincoln and will continue to assert ourselves in growth markets that we believe are best suited for convention and event promoters.”
Bombeck joined the organization as a sales development manager in September 2013. Bombeck began his career as director of events for the University of Nebraska athletic department, spending 10 years coordinating all home Husker events, Big XII and Big Ten conference championships as well as numerous NCAA regional and national championships. He is one of the founding members of Sports Nebraska, a state coalition that aims to attract and promote regional, national and international competitions within Nebraska’s cities.
