Ann Arbor Sports Commission Hosts Second Annual Celebration of Girls and Women in Sports
Events at Eastern Michigan and University of Michigan among celebration
Posted On: January 17, 2025 By :The Ann Arbor Sports Commission will host its second annual Washtenaw County Celebration of Girls and Women in Sports, a two-day event with a mix of activities, collegiate sports and panel discussions.
The event February 1–2 is timed with National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which celebrates the achievements of women and girls in sports while recognizing the importance of equal opportunities for athletic participation.
“We are thrilled to bring back this event for a second year,” said Meaghan Hughes, director of the Ann Arbor Sports Commission. “It’s an incredible opportunity to highlight the confidence, resilience, and joy that sports bring to girls and women in our community. Our goal is to encourage lifelong participation in athletics and create an environment where girls and women feel supported, included, and celebrated.”
The event starts February 1 at 12:30 p.m. with an Eastern Michigan women’s basketball game. Attendees will be able to participate in a pregame clinic with athletes before the game then get postgame autographs and take shots on the court.
There will be educational panels from 1-3 p.m. February 2 at The Kensington Hotel on topics such as diet culture, mental wellness, and resilience in sports. After the panels will be a University of Michigan women’s club hockey game at 4 p.m. with postgame autograph session.
Admission is $5 per person, which includes access to all activities across the two days.
