PSG-Strasbourg: Investigation Opened by the Paris Prosecution After Homophobic Chants by PSG Supporters

The events of last weekend are starting to gain momentum. This Wednesday morning, the Minister of Interior, Bruno Retailleau, expressed support for stopping matches in the event of homophobic chants. The Paris prosecution has opened an investigation following the unfortunate events last Saturday during the PSG-RCSA match.

While Parisians secured a convincing victory against the determined Strasbourg side (4-2), the celebrations were marred by incidents in the stands. Hervé Koller, making his debut as the speaker at Parc des Princes, had to use the microphone twice to remind the crowd of the zero-tolerance policy towards the homophobic chants sung by Ultras, primarily in the Auteuil stand, directed towards Marseille ahead of their match on Sunday evening.

These incidents have repercussions, as the Paris prosecution has initiated an investigation for “public incitement to hatred or violence based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and public insult based on sexual orientation or gender identity.” The investigation has been assigned to the brigade for the repression of personal delinquency (BRDP).

PSG Sanctioned by the LFP Disciplinary Committee

According to our sources, PSG is set to be sanctioned by the Disciplinary Committee of the LFP for these chants. This could lead to a fine and a match played behind closed doors with or without a suspended sentence. Unless postponed, this case will be reviewed on Wednesday, October 30th, by the disciplinary body.

This is not the first time that Paris Saint-Germain finds itself in this situation. Last year, the same Auteuil stand was subject to procedures, with the club being summoned for hearings before the Discipline Commission of the Professional Football League (LFP), which imposed sanctions (closure of the Auteuil stand for one match and another match with a suspended sentence).
