Fenerbahçe Keeps Title Hopes Alive with 2-1 Win Over Karagumruk, but Jorge Jesus Critical of Fans and Refereeing Decisions

Fenerbahçe secured an important and hard-fought 2-1 victory away at Karagumruk to respond to the 2-4 home defeat to Besiktas last time out in the Turkish Super Lig. [expander_maker id=”1″ ] The Istanbul side moved to 6 points behind league leaders Galatasaray, who they play in their last match of the season. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce made it through to the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup with a 4-1 win over Kayserispor in midweek.

After the game, Fenerbahçe’s head coach, Jorge Jesus spoke about his future amid rumours that he may return to Brazilian club Flamengo to replace Vitor Pereira, who appears to be on the verge of leaving. Jesus highlighted his affinity for the club’s President who had convinced him to join the Istanbul outfit, noting that he had yet to make a decision as there is a month left to play in the current season.

The Portuguese coach remains optimistic about his team’s chances of staging a late challenge for the title, as they have eight games left to play, including the crucial encounter against Galatasaray on the final day of the season. With Fenerbahce still in with a chance of closing the gap, Jesus expects a hotly contested finish to the season but also criticized the supporters for not being more supportive of the team in the previous two matches.

While praising the dedication and passion of the Fenerbahçe supporters, Jesus criticized them for not being supportive during recent performances. He argued that being a true supporter is about supporting the team in good and bad times alike.

Jesus also took issue with the refereeing decisions during the match, calling out a disallowed goal by Willian Arão that he believes should have counted, as well as a penalty that he believes could have been awarded to Fenerbahçe. However, he also made it clear that he is not making excuses, and that he expects this to be the final time he talks about refereeing decisions during his time in Turkey.[/expander_maker]
